Medical Exhibit: IntElect S with 8-cavity insulin cap mould
This year’s exhibit is an IntElect S 100 equipped with an 8-cavity mould from Kistler for the production of insulin caps. With this, MAPAG Maschinen AG and Sumitomo (SHI) Demag address one of the most demanding fields in plastics processing, where precision, stability and cleanliness are paramount. Automated part removal is handled by the in-house SAM-C5 robot, which stands out in its standard configuration with a robust, space-saving design and high-quality SHI servo motors. The robot concept also incorporates an enhanced cleanliness approach through optimised linear guides and drive technology, effectively reducing the risk of contamination in both the product and tool area.
From a software perspective, the robot integrates seamlessly into modern production environments. Intuitive low-code programming forms the foundation, supplemented by an extensive macro function library. Additional features include a program generator and the option to create external peripheral sequences, allowing even complex handling operations with peripheral equipment to be implemented without limitations.
Real-Time Quality Assurance
A particular highlight is the integration of the ComoNeoPREDICT prediction system from Kistler Instrumente AG into the myAssist data analytics tool. The system predicts the quality of each component during the injection moulding process itself. The software automatically generates test plans, supports model creation, and evaluates in real time whether the predicted quality characteristics lie within the defined tolerances. With myAssist and ComoNeoPREDICT, processors benefit from consistently safeguarded and easy-to-interpret quality and process monitoring – without any additional effort.
Comprehensive Digital Synergies
Furthermore, fully integrated digital connectivity is becoming increasingly strategic, especially in highly sensitive sectors such as medical technology. Open platforms provide the foundation for seamless data exchange between machines, devices, and systems from different manufacturers. myAssist plays a central role in enabling these synergies:
“Thanks to the high level of data transparency, deviations can be identified at an early stage, data from all OPC UA sources can be consolidated, and any changes in the production process can be addressed immediately,” explains Andreas Pittermann, CEO of MAPAG Maschinen AG. Users can compare live data with historical records and analyse a wide range of time intervals.
For communication to function smoothly across all machines and robots, all elements – from sensors to process parameters – must speak the same language. OPC UA provides this foundation. At the same time, Sumitomo (SHI) Demag is demonstrating how modular future extensions can be implemented to flexibly adapt to specific process requirements. “Especially for processors with limited resources, we are developing modules that significantly simplify the acquisition and analysis of quality-relevant information during ongoing production,” Pittermann adds.
Focus on Swiss market requirements
“In line with the motto Today. Tomorrow. Electric. visitors to the exhibition stand will gain a comprehensive insight into the precision, reproducibility and energy efficiency of Sumitomo (SHI) Demag's fully electric machine technology, including the seamless integration of automation, modern sensor technology and digital quality analysis and forecasting,” emphasises Pittermann.
bfa solutions presents MES software platform PiSolutions
As a partner on the booth, bfa solutions will showcase the MES software platform PiSolutions, including its industry-specific solution for injection moulding. The BASIC Bundle covers all essential functions of a modern MES – from OEE monitoring and alarm reporting to the recording and classification of downtimes and stoppages.
With modular ADD-ON extensions, bfa solutions offers additional performance packages in the areas of production planning, quality monitoring and maintenance management. These solutions help injection moulders transparently manage their production, reduce downtime and sustainably increase overall equipment effectiveness.
